Abstract

This sociological discussion with Randall Collins focuses on the time dynamics of conflict (and in some social interactions, violence), a dimension under-explored by sociological theory and empirical research. First, we evoke the origins of Collins’ general theory of social conflict. Then we focus the discussion on Collins’ recent work specifically devoted to the internal dynamics of conflict
and the role of third/neutral parties. Finally, we look at the possible futures of conflict theory,in particular in digital social spaces.
