The analysis is conducted with panel data covering 112 countries. First we show that IPR protection is U-shaped with respect to a country’s market size and inverse-U-shaped with respect to the aggregated market size of its trade partners. Second, reinforcing IPR protection reduces on-the-frontier and inside-the-frontier innovation in developing countries, without necessarily increasing innovation at the global level. date: 2023-02 date_type: published publisher: Elsevier Science id_number: 10.1016/j.worlddev.2022.106072 official_url: http://tse-fr.eu/pub/127264 faculty: tse divisions: tse keywords: Intellectual Property Rights keywords: Innovation keywords: Developing Countries keywords: Market Potential, keywords: Trade language: en has_fulltext: TRUE doi: 10.1016/j.worlddev.2022.106072 subjectsJEL: JEL_F12 subjectsJEL: JEL_F13 subjectsJEL: JEL_F15 subjectsJEL: JEL_L13 subjectsJEL: JEL_O31 subjectsJEL: JEL_O34 view_date_year: 2023 full_text_status: public publication: World Development volume: vol. 162 number: n° 106072 refereed: TRUE issn: 0305-750X oai_identifier: oai:tse-fr.eu:127264 harvester_local_overwrite: creators_idrefppn harvester_local_overwrite: creators_halaffid harvester_local_overwrite: pending harvester_local_overwrite: publisher harvester_local_overwrite: number harvester_local_overwrite: volume harvester_local_overwrite: publish_to_hal harvester_local_overwrite: title harvester_local_overwrite: hal_id harvester_local_overwrite: hal_version harvester_local_overwrite: hal_url harvester_local_overwrite: hal_passwd harvester_local_overwrite: creators_name oai_lastmod: 2023-01-26T13:33:57Z oai_set: tse site: ut1 publish_to_hal: TRUE hal_id: hal-03947266 hal_passwd: ua0l&l hal_version: 1 hal_url: https://hal.science/hal-03947266 citation: Auriol, Emmanuelle , Biancini, Sara and Paillacar Reeve, Rodrigo (2023) Intellectual property rights protection and trade: an empirical analysis.
