Using exogenous variation in prices from the survey design and individual cost estimates, these stated-choice probabilities are used to predict market equilibrium for long-term care insurance. Our results are twofold. First, information frictions are pervasive. Second, measuring the welfare losses associated with frictions in a framework that also allows for selection, it is found that information frictions reduce equilibrium take-up and lead to large welfare losses while selection plays little role. date: 2020-08 date_type: published publisher: American Economic Association id_number: 10.1257/pol.20180227 official_url: https://www.tse-fr.eu/sites/default/files/TSE/documents/doc/wp/2019/wp_tse_1034.pdf faculty: tse divisions: tse keywords: Long-term care insurance, adverse selection , stated-preference, health, insurance language: en has_fulltext: TRUE doi: 10.1257/pol.20180227 view_date_year: 2020 full_text_status: public publication: American Economic Journal: Economic Policy volume: vol. 12 number: n° 3 pagerange: 134-169 refereed: TRUE issn: 1945-7731 oai_identifier: oai:tse-fr.eu:123683 harvester_local_overwrite: publish_to_hal harvester_local_overwrite: faculty harvester_local_overwrite: pending harvester_local_overwrite: keywords harvester_local_overwrite: title harvester_local_overwrite: abstract harvester_local_overwrite: creators_affiliation harvester_local_overwrite: issn harvester_local_overwrite: publisher harvester_local_overwrite: hal_id harvester_local_overwrite: hal_version harvester_local_overwrite: hal_url harvester_local_overwrite: hal_passwd harvester_local_overwrite: number harvester_local_overwrite: volume harvester_local_overwrite: creators_idrefppn harvester_local_overwrite: creators_halaffid harvester_local_overwrite: official_url harvester_local_overwrite: creators_name harvester_local_overwrite: creators_id oai_lastmod: 2023-03-02T14:01:21Z oai_set: tse site: ut1 publish_to_hal: TRUE hal_id: hal-02929780 hal_passwd: q61doie# hal_version: 1 hal_url: https://hal.archives-ouvertes.fr/hal-02929780 citation: Boyer, Martin , De Donder, Philippe , Fluet, Claude-Denys , Leroux, Marie-Louise and Michaud, Pierre-Carl (2020) Long-term care insurance : information frictions and selection.
