We consider the hypothesis that under warmer climates, households exhibit “sprawling behavior”: they locate in larger plots, farther away from city centers. This hypothesis is tested empirically on household data by controlling for sample selection in simultaneous equations for housing size and distance to city center. We find evidence that such sprawling behavior is related to climate, suggesting that global warming and urban sprawl reinforce each other. date: 2016-05 date_type: published publisher: University of Wisconsin id_number: 10.3368/le.92.2.203 official_url: http://tse-fr.eu/pub/29892 faculty: tse divisions: tse keywords: Climate change keywords: urban sprawl keywords: housing decisions language: en has_fulltext: TRUE doi: 10.3368/le.92.2.203 subjectsJEL: JEL_C34 subjectsJEL: JEL_R14 view_date_year: 2016 full_text_status: public publication: Land Economics volume: vol. 92 number: n° 2 pagerange: 203-219 refereed: TRUE issn: 0023-7639 oai_identifier: oai:tse-fr.eu:29892 harvester_local_overwrite: oai_set harvester_local_overwrite: volume harvester_local_overwrite: number harvester_local_overwrite: creators_name harvester_local_overwrite: date harvester_local_overwrite: issn harvester_local_overwrite: faculty harvester_local_overwrite: abstract harvester_local_overwrite: publisher harvester_local_overwrite: pagerange harvester_local_overwrite: creators_affiliation harvester_local_overwrite: id_number harvester_local_overwrite: doi harvester_local_overwrite: creators_idrefppn harvester_local_overwrite: pending harvester_local_overwrite: creators_halaffid oai_lastmod: 2024-06-06T12:03:58Z oai_set: tse oai_set: ut1c site: ut1 citation: Grout, Cyrus, Cavailhès, Jean , Détang-Dessendre, Cécile and Thomas, Alban (2016) Is sprawling residential behavior influenced by climate?
